In The Spotlight : Ringling College Lifelong Learning Academy
It’s a proven fact that if you want to live longer and keep your brain sharp, you need to continue to learn new things as you age.
And a great place to do that is the Ringling College Lifelong Learning Academy.
“Primarily we are serving older adults who didn’t have time to study these subjects when they were working all the time, but they always had an interest in them, says executive director, Janna Overstreet. “Then we have retired teachers, business and professional people who are willing to share their knowledge by teaching.”
The Academy offers more than 300 courses a year to some 3500 individuals. Spring Semester starts March 6th and classes are offered on 67 different subjects.
“We have a class on the architecture of Sarasota taught by Karen Jones, Architect and retired here in Sarasota,” says Overstreet. “We have courses in everything from meditation to the Civil War , the Vietnam War and many, many different subjects. ”
