Despite the many constraints on 19th-century American women, two were extraordinary in their climb to the very pinnacle of power and influence. These are the stories of women who made remarkable contributions to the nation’s history and were among the famous people of their generation. Participants in the class will learn how these two, who are barely known today, overcame the suffocating social constraints of their times, and how they used their intelligence and determination to achieve greatness.
