THE FACES OF MT. RUSHMORE
Each year, two million visitors make the pilgrimage to Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota to peer up at the 60-foot visages of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. Dedicated nearly 80 years ago, Mount Rushmore was intended by its creator to be a celebration of not only these four presidents but also the nation’s unprecedented greatness. If you’ve ever wondered how the idea came about or how the faces of Mt Rushmore were chosen, this class is for you! We’ll delve into how a visionary idea became a national treasure and discover how the overwhelming 14-year construction process was undertaken. We will also dive into the biographies of the four presidents that are represented, and the qualities that they possessed that made them the obvious choices to be memorialized on this granite mountainside. Join us for this fun and informative look at this iconic piece of Americana.
